Grey’s Manuscript collection consists of unpublished documents largely written by hand in the 19th century.
The collection contains documents from Grey’s own political career, as well as manuscripts he collected or that were given to him by those who saw the benefit of having their manuscripts residing in his collection. This includes records of Māori traditions, whakapapa and waiata written in Te Reo by various Iwi.
The Māori manuscripts were inscripted on UNESCO's Memory of the World register in New Zealand, recognising their significance and value to New Zealand Aotearoa's cultural heritage.
