Log book of the Government brig Victoria, 1843-1845

The ‘Victoria’ was the Government brig responsible for carrying the Governor and his officials around New Zealand after 1840.
In January 1845 Captain Richard records the appearance of the entrance to the Manukau Harbour before rounding North Cape on his way to the Bay of Island. He arrives to find Hone Heke has just cut down the flagstaff.
